      The Will of ANDREW TAYLOR

      In the name of God Amen May 22d day 1787. I Andrew Taylor of Washington County and State of North Carolina being very sick and weak of body but in perfect mind & memory thanks be given to God, therefore calling to mind the mortality of the body and knowing that it is appointed to all men come to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give & recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God that give it and my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian manner at the devisation of the executors nothing shabby but at the general ?sw??t? I shall receive the same by the mighty power of God that gave it and touching? such wordly goods and stock wherewith it hath pleased the almighty God to bless me with in this life I give demise and depose of the same in the following manner -- and form allowing all just debts to be paid by my executors. I give & bequeath to Ann my beloved wife all my household furniture three milk cows the young bold mare to be at her disposal likewise a negroe wench name Poll to belong to her during my wifes natural life and likewise the dwelling house all the app??? ???? belonging thereto together with a sufficient maintainence & support during her time in this life. I give and bequeath to my beloved son Isaac Taylor the just and full sum of five shilling sterling currency & his heirs. I give & bequeath to my beloved son David McNabb the just and full sum of five shillings currency to him & his heirs I give and bequeath to my beloved son Andrew Taylor & his heirs and assignees the one half of the part of land that I dwelleth now on to be equally divided in quantity and quality between my son Andrew & Nathaniel to be divided by a line of as may answer the nature at dwelling as above described so as my son Andrew may have the upper end of the tract joining Cuninghams line excepting the improvement which I reserve during the natural life of my wife not refering to the improvements that my son Andrew now has made when said land comes to be divided he shall consider the land improved to be as land not improved and cultivated but as wood land and to be divided equally then in quantity and quality as if the land then was in the woods. I give and bequeath to my beloved son Matthew Taylor and his heirs assignees six hundred & forty acres of land being the land that I purchased from Isaac Taylor Surveyor likewise his riding horse the mare known by the name of the Talbot filly. I give and bequeath to my beloved son Nathaniel Taylor his heirs and assignees the half of the tract of land that I now dwelleth on to be equally divided between by son Nathaniel & Andrew now as before described likewise one waggon with every thing of utensils belonging to the said waggon likewise all utensils of husbandry to me in any manner & form belonging likewise I do give and bequeath all my stock of house creatures & cattle belonging to me except those already willed to my son Matthew & my wife to the aforesaid for Nathaniel Taylor and likewise do give & bequeath to the aforesaid son Nathaniel one s??? that now is in the hands of Matthew Talbot to be put for the use of the family to my youngest child Rhoda be of age then to belong to son Nathaniel Taylor his heirs & assignees I likewise do give & bequeath to the aforesaid Nathaniel Taylor his heirs & assignees lands and tenements in any manner and form belonging to me not refering to land already willed to my sons Andrew & Matthew and I do give unto the above son Nathaniel Taylor heirs & assignees all my flock of sheep now belonging to me and likewise all the S??? [?indents?] to the use of the family likewise I do five to my aforesaid son Nathaniel one note for six hundred and forty weight of ???? to be applied to the use of family. My aforesaid beloved son Nathaniel Taylor is to find a sufficient maintenance and support for my beloved wife Ann during her life & likewise a sufficient support and maintenance for my two daughters Rebecca & Rhoda and likewise a sufficient support for a negroe wench named Poll & her issue together with the child the negroe wench has now to the youngest child Rhoda comes of age I do give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Rebecca Taylor and the heirs of her body one negroe boy named Harvy and if my said daughter Rebecca Taylor should die without any issue of her own body then said negroe boy Harvy shall decend from my said daughter Rebecca to my son Nathaniel Taylor for his heirs and assignees and if the said negroe boy should die before the marriage of my said daughter Rebecca Taylor then she and the heirs of her own body shall be entitled to the choice of a negroe child of the issue of the negroe wench Poll if she ever after this should have any -- I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Rebecca Taylor one negroe wench named Poll after the decease of my beloved wife to decend to my said daughter Rhoda & her heirs of her own body and likewise one negroe child of the issue of said wench to decend to my said daughter Rhoda Taylor and the heirs of her own body and the remainder of the issue of said negroe wench if she ever should have more than has been mentioned should decend to my son Nathaniel Taylor his heirs and assignees and if my daughter Rhoda should die without an heir of her own body the negroe wench Poll and the said negroe child if any shall decend to my son Nathaniel Taylor heirs and assignees and I do constitute and ordain my true and trusty friend & sons David McNabb and Isaac Taylor executors of this my last will and testament & I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other wills -- testament legacies and bequeath and executors by me in any ways before named willed bequeathed ratifying confirming this my last will and testament & no other -- where of I have here unto set my hand & seal the day and year first above written.
