Introduction to WikiKin:

I have revamped the genealogy portion of this website. The menu at the top of this page now has an entry called “Genealogy,” which replaces the old entry of “Name Index.”

The page generation software I was using fails when the database exceeds 30,000 names. Until recently, there were 28,837 names. There are now 38,000 names. So I have switched to a genealogy web site software called TNG, or The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding.

This new software creates pages on the fly from a database and has many exciting features. It looks great, and it can create various charts. It also does maps on the individual person pages. If you browse the surnames and select one, you will see a button labeled “Heat Map.” Click on this button and you will get a Google map showing locations where people of that surname lived. It took me a while to get this part of the program to work. Currently, only some of the places have GPS coordinates, so not everyone gets mapped, but I am working on that. Only 6,000 places to go!

I will be adding a lot of photos to the genealogy in coming weeks, so check back often. I also have a lot more names and info to add.

Please try out this new way of presenting my genealogy. There is a contact link on the home page of the genealogy, so let me know how you like it.

WikiKin is a lifetime of genealogy research that I am now sharing.

I started out with my own family and then branched out to other families in eastern North Carolina, the northern Piedmont of North Carolina, and central Virginia. Then I added my wife’s family and other families in northeastern North Carolina. Both of these groups include celebrities, such as Wolfman Jack, Emily Deschanel, Zooey Deschanel, Edward Snowden, and baseball great Enos Slaughter. Also included are many historical figures, such as George Durant, Ann Marwood, John Culpeper, Governor William Reed (NC), and Governor William Tryon (NC and NY). A large part of the data is royalty from all over the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.

WikiKin contains many thousands of individuals. This data will be updated with new information as often as possible. The “Genealogy” link above will take you to the main genealogy page.

As of March 1, 2017, the WikiKin genealogy contains 38,000 people.
